Inbound this August on emerging Somerset drum and bass label Gyro Records comes the debut signing from ascendant youngster Jenks, who taps Brummie ragga emcee Natty D for the anthemic link-up “Rise”.
Believe it or not, the Hereford DJ/producer is just fifteen years of age, but has already attracted a loyal following of more than 4,000 SoundCloud followers with his distinctive breed of D&B heaters. Rising up under the tutelage of celebrated Mancunian musician and Informal head honcho Dutta, he’s released a flurry of projects including the Money EP and even contributed to the label’s recent USB-exclusive drop, in which he rubbed shoulders with the likes of Ego Trippin, Sub Zero and the big boss himself.
Boasting an equally rowdy output on labels like Kingpin Production, Dutty Drops Audio and Fully Charged Audio in recent months, he’s proven himself to be a devoted contributor to the scene, with tunes like last year’s gravelly triumph “Spin It” racking up hundreds of thousands of plays and enjoying heavy rotation—even though he’s not old enough to attend raves himself yet!
New single “Rise” is another surefire success, demonstrating nostalgic sensibilities and paying homage to the jungle of yesteryear while infusing it with a newfound energy and cutting-edge sound design prowess. Natty D’s rhythmic delivery perfectly complements a backdrop of punchy, sonorous 808s, ricocheting reeses and stuporous grooves, culminating in an unequivocally amped-up affair guaranteed to get listeners moving.
