Alzoc III lands on the label with the Gimme Dat EP - a five-track tour de force that fuses mid-90s grit with modern jungle flair. Heavy, sample-rich and downright bad boy, it’s a masterclass in chopping breaks, twisting basslines and digging deep into the roots of the culture.
The EP opens with ST PT.2, an amalgamation of mid-90s hip-hop, ragga jungle, sci-fi and scratch turntablism. Pure wobbling bass and tear-out amens; even a scarecrow couldn’t stand still to this one.
Then, Manuva keeps the pressure on, layering beautifully dusty, sample-heavy production with a hip-hop tinge; steppy breaks and snare rolls dance effortlessly around ingenious basslines.
On the title track Gimme Dat, eerie pads and time-stretched drums lead into a full-throttle amen assault, complete with gliding sines and playfully arranged patterns. And of course, a tastefully placed Snatch sample seals the deal.
Ingot Screemz turns the choppage up another notch, equal parts unnerving and enticing, its metallic stretches and bubbling 808 maintaining pure forward motion.
Closing with Murda, Alzoc III unleashes absolute carnage. Clash vocals, dub sirens, relentless break chops and a bassline reminiscent of ‘94 ragga, this one is certain to kill off even the most resilient of soundboys.
What are you waiting for? RUN IT UP!
