Doc Scott has been a respected name in the rave scene since its early days. Known for his groundbreaking productions on labels like Reinforced and Metalheadz, he’s equally revered for his impeccable skills as a DJ.

Even before the term drum and bass was coined, Doc Scott’s seminal track ‘Here Comes the Drumz’, under his Nasty Habits alias, laid the blueprint for the genre. He is truly a “DJ’s DJ” – His Metalheadz Bluenote sets are legendary… Scotty is a selector supreme whose style is as diverse as his own productions.

As a producer, his music ranges from the atmospheric and rolling vibes of tracks like ‘Tokyo Dawn’ (released on Good Looking Records) to the raw, tear-out energy found on labels like Metalheadz. On his own 31 Records, Doc Scotts productions explorer deep, techno-inspired rhythms, proving his versatility and lasting influence on electronic music.

Metalheadz

Metalheadz was founded in 1994 by Goldie alongside DJs Kemistry & Storm, emerging from the UK rave scene to become a cornerstone of drum and bass. Its debut split 12” release, the A side featuring Doc Scotts ‘Drumz VIP, with a B side from Goldie. This release immediately signalled a commitment to forward-thinking productions, and the legendary Sunday Sessions at London’s Blue Note club fostered a culture of experimentation.

Over three decades, the label has championed artists like Photek and Dillinja while continually pushing boundaries, still remains at the forefront of the genre.

We caught up with Doc Scott ahead of the recent Metalheadz show at The Globe, in Cardiff, & got him to select his 5 most infamous cuts from the groundbreaking Metalheadz back catalogue.
