One date discrepancy: Metalheadz Bandcamp lists 9 November; Resident Advisor and Beatport list 13 November, while some physical retailers list 4 December. The article below avoids presenting an unconfirmed universal release date. Metalheadz is honoured to welcome Ray Keith to the label with a two track release paying tribute to the artists, music and culture that have shaped his career over more than four decades.
Drawing on the classic Metalheadz sound, both tracks were created specifically for the label, bringing Ray's own production style into conversation with the sound that helped define an era. The result looks back to the foundations of the music while reflecting the experience of an artist who has been part of its evolution from the very beginning.
With a career spanning rare groove, acid house, hardcore and jungle, Ray Keith remains a constant presence in electronic music, known for his influential productions and work across a number of key labels.
This arrival on Metalheadz marks a long-awaited milestone for Ray, uniting his own musical journey with a label whose legacy has run alongside it.

Jungle pioneer Ray Keith finally joins the legendary Metalheadz catalogue with a two-track release, Every Day / Romulus, marking a milestone in a career spanning more than four decades of underground music.
Some announcements carry more historical significance than others, and this is certainly one of them. After decades of shaping jungle and drum & bass through his productions, DJ sets, remixes and independent label Dread Recordings, Ray Keith is preparing to release music on Metalheadz for the very first time.
The forthcoming two-track record, Every Day / Romulus, brings together two names whose influence reaches back to the foundations of jungle and drum & bass in the early 1990s.
For anyone familiar with the history of British underground music, the significance of this collaboration is difficult to overlook.
A Long-Awaited Moment for Ray Keith
Announced by Metalheadz in October 2026, Every Day / Romulus represents Ray Keith's first official artist release on the label.
Responding to the announcement, Ray Keith described the release as a personal ambition finally being realised. "Thanks for the love everyone, it's been on my bucket list," he wrote, before thanking Ant TC1, Goldie and the Metalheadz team.
That reaction speaks volumes.
Despite having established one of jungle's most recognisable catalogues and his own enduring record label, Keith still regards releasing on Metalheadz as a significant achievement. The release is not about introducing a new artist to an established audience. It represents the meeting of two longstanding musical legacies.
Two Tracks, One Shared History
The forthcoming release features:
A-side: Every Day — 7:31
AA-side: Romulus — 6:19
Both tracks were written and produced by Ray Keith specifically for Metalheadz.
According to the label's official announcement, the project pays tribute to the artists, music and culture that have shaped Keith's career.
The recordings draw inspiration from the classic Metalheadz sound while maintaining his own distinctive production identity. Rather than simply revisiting the past, the release reflects a meeting of musical influences that have developed alongside one another for more than thirty years. For fans of the darker and more experimental foundations of jungle and drum & bass, it is a particularly interesting collaboration.
Ray Keith: From the Early Rave Scene to Jungle History
Ray Keith's career began long before the jungle sound was formally established.
Emerging through rare groove, acid house and the developing rave movement, he became involved with electronic music during a period of enormous musical experimentation.
His early production and remix work included projects associated with artists such as Orbital, Moby and Shades of Rhythm. By the early 1990s, Keith was contributing to the developing breakbeat and jungle movement, building a reputation for his powerful basslines, intricate breakbeats and distinctive production style.
One of his most historically significant recordings remains Terrorist, released under his Renegade alias on Moving Shadow in 1994.
The record became a defining example of the darker, breakbeat-driven jungle sound that helped establish the genre's identity.
Moving Shadow's original catalogue confirms that Terrorist was released on 4 July 1994, with Ray Keith credited as writer and producer.
That same year, Keith founded Dread Recordings, establishing an independent outlet that would become synonymous with his uncompromising approach to jungle and drum & bass.
Across subsequent decades, Dread continued releasing music, supporting artists and preserving a recognisable identity within the underground scene.
Metalheadz: Another Cornerstone of the Same Era
Metalheadz was established in 1994 by Goldie alongside Kemistry and Storm, becoming one of the most influential record labels in jungle and drum & bass history.
With its distinctive visual identity and groundbreaking catalogue, the label helped develop a sound characterised by experimental breakbeat programming, deep bass, atmosphere and innovative production.
The legendary Metalheadz Sunday Sessions at London's Blue Note became an essential meeting point for DJs, producers and dedicated followers of the emerging movement.
Artists associated with the label's history include Goldie, Doc Scott, J Majik, Source Direct, Photek and numerous others who helped push the musical boundaries of jungle and drum & bass.
Meanwhile, Ray Keith was developing his own musical legacy through Dread Recordings and a succession of influential releases.
Both operated within the same evolving underground culture, yet maintained their own distinctive musical identities.
That is partly what makes this announcement so interesting.
More than thirty years after both labels emerged, these parallel histories finally meet through an official Ray Keith release on Metalheadz.
Different Sounds, Shared Foundations
One of the most fascinating aspects of this release is the relationship between the Metalheadz and Dread sounds. Both emerged from the same wider breakbeat and jungle culture, but developed recognisable characteristics of their own.
Metalheadz became particularly associated with atmospheric, experimental, intricate and darker drum & bass, while Dread Recordings built a reputation for its heavy basslines, raw energy and powerful jungle productions.
Those descriptions are not rigid musical boundaries, but they demonstrate the creative diversity that existed within the scene from its earliest years.
In a 2022 interview with UK Bass Music, Ray Keith reflected on the individual identities of Dread and Metalheadz, explaining that each had developed a distinctive sound. The forthcoming record therefore represents more than another addition to the Metalheadz catalogue. It brings together two musical approaches that have helped shape the evolution of jungle and drum & bass for decades.
Still Moving Forward
There is something particularly fitting about this release arriving in 2026.
At a time when jungle's history, influences and musical identity continue to attract discussion, artists such as Ray Keith remain active contributors rather than simply historical figures.
Keith's career demonstrates the importance of longevity, independence and continuing to develop creatively.
From his early rave-era involvement and landmark 1990s recordings to his work with Dread Recordings and now Metalheadz, his journey reflects much of the evolution of the underground music scene itself.
The fact that a first Metalheadz release remains a meaningful milestone after such an extensive career says something about the respect these pioneering labels continue to command.
Ray Keith — Every Day / Romulus is scheduled for release in November 2026, with digital and vinyl pre-orders available through Metalheadz.
More than thirty years in the making, it is a meeting of two names whose contributions to jungle and drum & bass are already firmly established.
And perhaps that is the real story here.
Two pioneers of the same movement, two distinctive musical legacies, and a collaboration that has taken more than three decades to arrive.
