Sigma embrace artistic autonomy on new album “DAY ONE” – their first to be released completely independently.
In January 2025, Sigma laid out their intentions for a year of change; their mission? To rebuild a new legacy from the ground up. Leaning into the darker sounds of their early releases, fusing it with their signature anthemic sound and the razor-sharp relevance of current club tastes – “DAY ONE” represents a creative maturity for an act that helped pave the way for the mainstream acceptance of drum’n’bass.
Thrust into the major label machine a decade ago, Sigma’s subsequent success undeniably defined them as powerhouse producers, but the double-edged sword of this breakneck journey under the microscope of the public eye left the pair’s original creative vision for the Sigma project somewhat blurred.
Now, it’s time for a day-one reset.
“DAY ONE” isn’t just a course correction, it’s a new journey. Armed with the same passion that fuelled the early days of their career, the now-independent duo re-entered the studio without constraints; just a love for drum’n’bass and a commitment to enjoy the process.
“Sometimes you’ve got to take it back to your roots and reconnect with why you started in the first place. That’s exactly what this project has been for us. We are in full control of the sound, the energy, the vision. This is DAY ONE.” – Sigma
Enlisting new and underground talent – from Dizzee Rascal and Stefflon Don, to Jamakabi and Scrufizzer – taking things back to basics at every level has been paramount for Joe and Cameron; an empowering attitude that permeates the new music and label ethos. Looking back to the iconic club cuts that helped put Sigma on the map at the start of their career and caught the attention of labels like Breakbeat Kaos, Bingo Beats, and Hospital, “DAY ONE” is a message from one of the most influential artists in drum’n’bass: “we’re back”.
