CIA Records is a label which has remained at the pinnacle of drum & basses underground since its inception. Created by duo Total Science, who has helped define the genre's more intimate sounds, CIA has pioneered its back catalogue of releases since it was established in 1997. And its sister label Deepkut has always strived to roll even deeper, bringing on board artists who never confine themselves to any one paradigm and continue to push the boundaries with each one of their slick sonic outputs.

Forthcoming on Deepkut is the 'Neptune EP' from RoyGreen and Protone. An Austrian based outfit whose devotion to their art oozes between the compositions of every record featured on the release. Their careful liquid melodies pedestal a stellar level of musical aptitude and the 'Neptune EP' not only highlights the CIA founders' expert A&R, but also how high the bar has been raised for its sister label. It's carved its own place alongside its mother ship’s history.

Their collaboration with Electrosoul System begins 'Neptune's' four track collection, moving through each artist's own meticulously fashioned signature to merge a melting pot of dainty beats and hard hitting breaks. Layered synths take you further and further into an epic soundscape of carefully woven female vocals which distorts between segments.

Then it’s the title-track 'Neptune', which pulls on the talents of Joakium and veers forward with flitting note arpeggios and diced samples.

Monologue then joins RoyGreen and Protone for 'Prince Vlad', powering through with quaking drum peddles and a steppy bass line which twists through a dreamlike intro. Its metallic instrumentals flow ominously through the mix, maintaining its heavier edge whilst you're whisked into its ethereal overtures.

Finally, Pennygiles makes a welcome addition through 'Suburbs', where he joins the pair for a melting pot of ticking hi-hats, a piano tinkling and cranking snares. The record reinforces not only the high ranking production of each artist given a platform through 'Neptune', but also what Deepkut has stood for since its very first release. The imprint continues to stand out through its own accord, never bowing to the more mainstream ideals which sometimes water down drum & basses soul.
